In Korea, the Health soup is pretty popular in the summer time. They say it gives you energy, power and stamina. While in Korea, I've been pretty adventurous and say that would try anything once (or more times, if I enjoy it!).
The Health soup is an unusual type of dish, because, well, its main ingredient is a man's best friend -- a dog!
Finally, my friends and I got together in order to try this pooch soup. Not everyone in our group was enthusiastic as I, and not everyone tried it. Surprisingly to all, it was quite tasty. No really! Once you get passed the thought that you're eating a doggy dog, the taste is a mix of turkey and chicken aftertaste.
The price is pretty reasonable, only 7,000 won (around $6) per soup. But you can also order a plate of plain meat (a bit pricey though - 30,000-50,000 won).
4 brave people indulged in 2 bowls of soup, mixed in bowls of rice (a typical Korean way of enjoying soup and rice).
Being a dog lover, I'm not afraid to admit that I really enjoyed the soup and would definitely have it again. Now, its a great conversation starter or one of those "hey did you try anything strange while in Korea?"
Doggy dog and caterpillar are now at the top of my strangest and unusual foods I've ever eaten! WOOF-WOOF
